Boulder outcroppings transition beautifully into open space

The Landscape: Moving from rustic Nederland to Boulder, these clients wanted a unique yard where their children could play while still maintaining the mountain aesthetic they loved.

Our Solution: Utilizing substantial boulder outcroppings transition into the yard’s adjacent Boulder County open space and gave Outdoor Craftsmen the ability to create a very natural and striking aesthetic. The design was the winner of the 2007 Award of Excellence – Wall Construction. A natural cliff climbing wall was erected out of a 12-foot sheer, single stone, which is an important focal point.

Highlights:

  • A unique cave formation gives children a feeling of innate mystery
  • Simple flagstone pathways maintain a cohesive, rustic aesthetic
  • Large pockets between boulders create planting zones
  • A vegetable and cutting gardens are terraced into the slope
