DAVIS RESIDENCE

Constructed in numerous phases over the years, the owners of this beautiful estate aren’t quite done yet. The once basic stone patio and planting beds have been transformed to embody a beautiful yet natural looking xeric aesthetic. The addition of the outdoor kitchen, pool house and expansive patios has increased the properties all-season usable space to grand proportions.

To experience this tranquil and private landscape, one must begin at the humble front entrance of the house, where an assemblage of perennials and shrubs are dense but neatly contained in several symmetrical rectangular planting beds. In the background a groomed lawn bordered with natural-seeming boulder outcroppings and clusters of pine trees provides an area for recreation, relaxation, and seclusion. Traveling south along the tightly-fit stone pathway to the backyard, several additional geometric planting beds can be noticed, boasting an array of plant material.  Arriving in the backyard, one can realize the extensive scope of the project while standing on the upper patio and enjoying a panoramic view of the manicured lawns, pool, pool house with outdoor kitchen, hot tub, fire pit, multiple planting areas with stone outcroppings, and a vast native grass lawn.

Making your way down from the upper patio to the pool area, an arrangement of multi-sized pots filled with a variety of perennials, annuals, and small shrubs act as a transitional element.  Arriving at the pool area of the garden, one has many options. To the east is circular concrete spa that is accented with a well-crafted stone cap..

To the southeast lies an extravagant pool house complete with stone and wood columns, outdoor kitchen, stone countertops and fireplace. To finalize this comfortable setting, wood furniture such as tables, couches, chairs, and other furnishings have been arranged to maximize usable space and provide a unique environment for entertaining and gathering.  Attached to the pool house is a separate room with sliding barn doors, which neatly hides all of the pool controls and irrigation mechanisms.

While viewing in a westward direction from the pool house, the pool and extensive cut-stone patio can be appreciated.  On the edges of the lawn areas lie natural moss-covered boulder outcroppings that provide the accents for lush planting beds and the support for ten foot high berms. These areas have been further enhanced with the planting of very large specimen trees, oak trees that range in excess of eight inch caliper, gigantic crabapple trees, and twenty foot tall austrian pine trees.  To compliment these seemingly full-grown trees, mature shrubs and a multitude of ornamental grasses and perennials have been situated amongst the dozens of large moss rock boulder outcroppings.

Future phases to this ever-growing project include hopes to create a large pond for fly fishing as well as upgrades near the front entrance and development of the walkout basement area.
